Travis Fisher- #8 Late Model
Fern
Glen’s Travis Fisher grew up watching his father racing, winning and
building cars that others compete with at area race tracks. He
wanted to climb behind the wheel of a car when he got older and did
so with great success. However, unlike many sons or daughters of
great racers, Travis wasn’t handed a golden spoon. Instead he had to
work his own way towards the top.
Travis began racing in his home prepped #8 Toyota Celica in the Four
Cylinder division at Sundance Vacations Speedway in 2004. He grabbed
a heat race win and was voted the Most Popular Driver that season as
well.
He planned to compete for the entire season in 2005 and did so by
building a Ford Escort GT mount. Although that make and model of
vehicle is underpowered for the division, Travis somehow managed to
win several heat races and broke through to win his first feature on
June 24. He finished 9th in the overall points standings
and once again was voted the Most Popular Driver in his division.
Realizing his dream, Travis and the team put together a new race car
for the 2006 season and despite mechanical woes throughout the year,
the young pilot visited victory lane twice and finished 3rd
in the overall points standings.
The following season was one to remember for Travis as he not only
won 11 races, but he clinched his first track championship at
Sundance. Making it even more bittersweet, his father won the Late
Model championship as well, which was the first time ever that a
father/son combination won championships during the same year at the
speedway. The two also won features together on the same night as
well during that season. If that wasn’t
enough, Travis was honored as the divisional Most Popular Driver for
the third time in four seasons.
To date, Travis leads the Four Cylinder division at Sundance with 14
feature wins.
Travis purchased a very used Late Model and rebuilt it for the
beginning of the 2008 season. Looking to get his
feet wet he made the trip to Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton.
Amazingly, he notched his first feature win just weeks into the
start of the season and followed up the feat by winning a couple
more before the season was finished. He ended up finishing an
impressive 3rd in the overall point standings at the
track and also won Rookie of the Year in the division. He also
traveled to Sundance Vacations and Oswego Speedways where he had
impressive results.
The 2009 season is only halfway through and Travis has already been
to victory lane at Sundance Vacations Speedway. He also competed on
concrete for the fist time over the July 4th weekend at
the new Shangra-La II Speedway and at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
Travis said that he owes much of his success to his great crew and
of course his supportive family and sponsors.
Look for this young driver to visit victory lane near you in the
future!
